Healing Empire USA was founded in January 2022 with the mission of helping kids engage in sports, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. Having overcome many traumas through soccer and the support of my teammates, I understand the profound impact that sports and community can have on young lives.
During a visit to my wife’s father in Lago Calima, a small town 2.5 hours from Cali, I met a group of 28 kids whose story touched my heart. These children worked tirelessly throughout 2021 to raise funds for their first team uniforms, cleats, and soccer balls. Tragically, their coach vanished during the holidays with all their money, leaving them devastated and without hope.
Hearing their story ignited a deep desire in me to help. I felt a strong connection to these kids, as if I were one of them, striving to make the best of life despite challenging circumstances. I wanted to show them that good people still exist and that God works in mysterious ways to fulfill a greater purpose.
I gathered the kids and assured them that I would help them, even though I wasn’t sure how at that moment. Fueled by determination, I hired a new coach for the team, offering $300 per month for coaching. I requested a commitment of at least five days of training each week.
In addition to providing uniforms, cleats, and soccer balls, I set one important requirement for the kids: I wanted them to focus on their education. While I didn’t expect perfection, I emphasized the importance of completing their school assignments and doing their best. If they could commit to their studies, we would provide them with the resources they needed for better opportunities.
Before returning to Miami, I left them with 11 codes of ethics to learn and live by: discipline, resilience, respect, benevolence, self-love, kindness, punctuality, honesty, cleanliness, teamwork, and leverage.
Miami Soccer Club Values
Upon my return to the USA, I reached out to friends who understood my personal journey and the significance of this mission to me. I established Healing Empire USA as a nonprofit organization, which was approved by the IRS after seven months of hard work and an initial investment of $2,000. This endeavor is not just about soccer; it’s about transforming lives and providing hope for a brighter future.
While waiting for Healing Empire USA to be officially approved, I took immediate action. By March 1, 2022, I had raised enough funds, with the generous support of friends and family, to provide 40 soccer uniforms, cleats, and soccer balls for the team. The joy and gratitude on the kids’ faces when they received these essentials were unforgettable. Within just six months, the team grew to 71 members.
By October 2024, our roster included 69 kids, one dedicated coach, and a secretary to assist with our mission. The kids chose the name “Club Miami Soccer,” reflecting their excitement about the help coming from Miami, as well as their admiration for Messi, who plays for Inter Miami. The buzz surrounding Messi was so powerful that in December 2024, Healing Empire USA sponsored 71 complete soccer uniforms for every member, designed to resemble the Inter Miami soccer uniform.
Our growth has been remarkable, and we have positively impacted the quality of life for entire families through the beautiful game of soccer. However, we now need your help to continue transforming vulnerable kids into disciplined individuals with dreams of becoming professionals.
In February 2025, I had the opportunity to visit the team again after two years. Listening to the coaches’ concerns, I knew we needed to take further action. I hired a child psychologist to support our team, focusing on teaching emotional intelligence to help the kids better cope with their personal challenges.
Your support and donations are crucial in providing uniforms, training materials, salaries for coaches and psychologists, and legal assistance needed for a brighter future for all our team members.
